I got a 2080 on my SAT in Jan.
(790 in math and I'm looking into being an engineer)

4.7ish GPA so far in Junior year.
^(b/c of honors and AP classes)
(straight A student, besides the occasional B)

Lots of service hours and whatnot.

Varsity Soccer + Lacrosse
(Captain of Lacrosse team twice, and Soccer once)
(All Conferance/County player for both)

Governor's School nominee in NC for math.
(Some fancy pants summer program for the cream of the crop. I didn't make though. If you don't know what I'm talking about then never mind.)

I want to know if any of you think I could get a good scholarship to a Division 1 College, athletic or otherwise. I know it's not that much to go by, but I'd like to hear your opinion.
And if I sent my scores to any colleges, how long
does it usually take them to contact someone?

(I live in North Carolina, if that matters)

are you a senior now? usually if you are they'd already contact you about sports.
and most colleges have different dates they'll tell you by about scholarships and stuff.
you could email the college and ask about it. i'm sure it's not the 1st time they've heard it

Um... Yeah, I'd say that's pretty scholarship worthy!

Wow, make me feel inadequate. Haha. Maybe I should start trying in school...

I'm a Junior. I just finished my first semester a few weeks ago.

By the way, will I be contacted if I'm a National Merit Scholar finalist? I think I took it in the fall of '07 (last year).  I had a perfect math score but my reading or writing, or what ever the other parts are, weren't that great.

Yeah, I can see scholarships in your direction that's for sure.

Full rides though...? It really depends on colleges on that.

If I were you, I would talk with the guidance counselor on a regular basis to check up on scholarships and such. Also, look to see if there are any programs offered that helps with paying college apps and such. I saved so much money by joined this one program in my area called Talent Search. I started my freshmen year and it helped me pick out majors/careers, fill out apps (it exempted me from paying them as well), and with scholarships and such. I even went on college visits through it so my parents didn't have to pay for car trips and such.

Here's a link to it;

I suggest everyone at least look into it and see if they can even get into it.

Depends on the school. If you want an athletic scholarship your athletic abilites are a LOT more important than your grades, even at academically competitive schools. I go to Duke and most of the kids I know who are scholarship athletes did only okay academically in high school... basically they care more about your sports stats than your grades. Though recruitment period for D1 is past I do beleive. I got a scholarship offer for XC at a D3 school and they had already contacted me and offered it to me by my junior year.

If you want an academic scholarship, youre going to have to look at some lower tier schools... like NC state or maybe UNC. At the higher up schools, everyone is at the same level that you are and the chances you'd get a scholarship are pretty low unless you do something outstanding/interesting.

And did you actually go to the summer gov school or just get nominated? im confused about that. I went to the Spanish one in VA, it was a great experience. edit: nvm i missed that

NC State is actually my number 1 or 2 pick, that's good to hear.  Do you think that it would help to go to a summer engineering camp at NC State (would they like that?)?  I figured that while I was there I could get a look around and talk to people.

My ex was considering NC state and I visited a few times with him. I really loved it, its pretty and a decent school too. And from what I know their engineering departments are really good. Lots of construction last time I was there, but you will find that at any college campus.

Anyway, it will help you personally to see if you like the school or not, but I dont think it would be much different than going to summer programs at any other school as far as scholarships go. I'm not completely sure on that though. I'm sure you could get some sort of scholarship there. I would never guarentee it, but youd definetly stand a good chance.

First, you will need to complete the FAFSA. Colleges will not offer you financial aid packages without this being completed and sent to the colleges you are interested in attending.

Second, you can contact the financial aid office at the colleges you plan to apply to and find out what the average FA package contains and if there are specific programs you may qualify for, as they may require a separate application process.

Third, do not put your eggs in one basket. While you will probably be offered several scholarships and grants at the colleges you apply to, you will also want to use several (not just one!) free scholarship search services to locate other free money.

Try ScholarshipExperts.com, SchoolSoup and FastWeb. Once you get your lists, sit down and start applying to 5-10 each month.

Like everything associated with college, it's a process and takes time. Don't give up hope if you don't win any scholarships right away, keep applying.

The best thing is to look for programs with topics that interest you and require a little work, as these programs have a smaller field of applicants (better odds for you!).
