You shouldn't hurt yourself if you're relaxed when you try. Try to be as relaxed as possible and the whole situation should be a lot easier for you. Make sure you're inserting it at the right angle (read the instructions for info on this) and gently push. It might feel a little uncomfortable and weird, but it really will get easier. Push it as far as you possibly can (it won't get lost, don't worry) and that should be you done (also, don't "shove" it in as your friend said. Wtf? That's just completely wrong. The angle you're putting it in is probably off; read the directions again and look at those nifty little diagrams they give you. Once it's in, you shouldn't really be able to feel it. The first few times are pretty difficult, since you're not sure how it's supposed to feel, but if you can get your finger in, then you can definitely fit a tampon in. Just prop one of your legs up on the bathtub or a stool or something to get the right angle to put it in. It will feel extremely strange and uncomfortable at first because you're not used to it just yet. Try putting it in when you are having your period, and there's natural lubrication from the blood.
