I'm a junior right now and basically everyone I know is getting rejected from their top choices, and trust me, I go to a really incredibly high ranked high school with really outstanding candidates for these universities. It's scary to see all of these overachievers getting rejected everywhere, knowing that that could me be next year.

Maybe it's time to consider applying for nursing and then transferring after the first semester... lol.

Ugh, but really. Who else is feeling the heat?

I felt it a bit, but then I took a closer look at the kinds of schools to which I was applying. I chose not to apply to any of the Ivy Leagues or any big universities because I wouldn't actually be happy there -and tried to find some smaller colleges that really fit what I wanted- Reed, Hampshire, Beloit, Knox, and Earlham. I got into all of them, I think to a large extent because they were a good match for me.

I've felt the heat already :/

It's the most competitive year yet. I go to a pretty prestigious school too & I've been hearing that our top students have recieved quite a few rejections.

That sucks. I wonder how it's going to be for me in two years..

Jeez where are they all applying. I was really surprised when like everyone in my class got accepted to Michigan.

You know I go to one of those top ten universities and so many people here are miserable. Its okay to go to a state school, its okay to be second best... it really is. If you go to Harvard it might be great to know that you go there, but everyone there is going to be better than you all the time and you will often feel like utter shit.

Just relax. You say you go to a good high school, youve probably done well. There are opportunities for you out there. You don't always have to be the best of the best, and even if you are, you're always left feeling inadequate. I love my school because I've met a lot of amazing people here, but my GPA isn't that great and I struggle just to feel like everyone else isn't better than me.

Most people here feel the same way.

UCLA here. Trust me, the prestige is overrated. If you focus on learning and improving yourself, it doesn't matter where you go.

That's why you have back up schools.  I should hope these people who are getting rejected have also applied to acceptable schools that are basically sure to get into.  If they're not, you need to learn from their mistakes and make sure to include in your list of applications schools that you're sure you can get into.  Starting somewhere and transferring in can be good, but it often messes with any kind of financial aid and scholarship that you might get.  If you're counting on academic scholarship, you should try finding somewhere you can be happy going all four years.

Don't let all of this worry you too much.  What happens to others will not necessarily happen to you.  You really should put it out of mind.  As long as you treat the situation rationally, you should be able to roll with the punches if the times comes and you are rejected from your top choice schools.

Yeah I do. I always have fear of rejection for next year.
