LiveWire is Now Carbon Neutral LiveWire uses 1700 Kilowatt hours of electricity each year. The production of that electricity emits 2051 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Starting today, LiveWire has donated to purchase Green Tags, which are carbon offsets that allow organizations like LiveWire to fund the installation of renewable energy systems in schools and public buildings. A portion of our donation also goes towards watershed restoration. LiveWire donated $60 to purchase Two Green Tags, that represents enough renewable energy to offset a typical home for a month with clean wind and solar power, and is equal to: - 2,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy onto North America's power grids - 3,000 miles of offsetting emissions from a standard car Today LiveWire is committed to helping people, and together we will make a greener tomorrow. To learn more about Green Tags, visit http://www.greentagsusa.org/renewables/

Wahh. LiveWire just got so much better! That is amazing. I'm so happy just a forum not dedicated to such would do this. Very nice decision.

I'm sorry (not really), but 60 dollars is NOTHING compared to what the LW members 'donate' to the site itself. Are you expecting a pat on the back for this measly little gift? How about donating 60 dollars per week? Or even per month? I donated 30 dollars every two weeks (every paycheck) to various foundations and charities. 60 dollars, ONCE, is a paltry amount, and should have been given in secret, instead of acting as a reason to prance around and call oneself 'green'. This is just stupid.

You are right in saying that $60 is relatively little compared to the amount of energy demand in the world. However, it shows how responsible organizations like LiveWire could easily afford to offset their activities, and it's not just for companies -- homeowners can do the same. Tell your friends, tell your parents. LiveWire is doing its part and we are proud of it.

I THINK I should have respect for you, davjs, if only for creating this site, but I don't want to sit back and let you twist my words. As of yet, I haven't lost respect for LW's leader, but it might come to that, if the site progresses much further down the path it is headed. I didn't say it was little compared to energy demand. I said it was little compared to -what gets donated-. I have already encouraged my co-workers to sign up for the biweekly donations, to give a little of their money to the available organizations and charities. My parents already know my stance on this, and have given their bit as well. When I call them every Sunday, to check how they are doing, they remind me, almost every time, of how proud they are to have raised such a son.
