Basically i have taken my Mac back to OSX after it's time as an Ubuntu machine and I'm looking at getting it working just how i would like. I want your suggestions for the best free Mac software out there. It doesn't have to be open-source, although always nice. These can be productivity apps, music editing, web browsers, whatever. (http://getfirefox.com Caffeine - Screen light app. Free (http://osx.iusethis.com/app/caffeine) Colloquy - IRC client. Free download (http://colloquy.info) Transmission - Bittorrent client.(http://transmissionbt.com) That's basically the list of free software I use on my Mac. I rarely use stuff you have to pay for if there's a good alternative, and OS X is pretty good for having little apps for certain uses. I definitely recommend Growl, as it works with loads of apps. By no means a definitive list, I'll add more if I come to think of them. -- Posted by pleaseremove at 7:37 am on April 9, 2008 As a quick note, iMovie and iPohoto do not count as free. They are part of iLife which is not free software, it is pay for software that happens to come with new Macs. So you either have this anyway which means you don't need it as part of the list, or its not free and doesn't qualify to be on the list. Its a really cool program that plays music at a time you set and even wakes your Mac up from sleep.
