I just tried to print something and it said 'print job cannot begin' and I tried to open control panel to see if the printer was recognized. However, in both classic and vista view it says that control panel is empty. :o There is nothing to click when I open control panel. I have vista by the way, and it acts up a lot. I'm kind of worried because I accidentally ran a system defrag for like 45 seconds, and the person I was talking to said "Oh, don't close the defrag or else it will delete any files it's working with". Of course I had already closed the defrag, (I had only opened it because I was curious and this person told me to :P). Anyway now I have a non-working printer. The printer is hooked up right; it's recognized when I try to initiate the print job. It just won't actually print. Plus I have an empty control panel. Help?

The defrag most likely would have caused the problem. You should run a complete defrag to avoid anymore problems with missing files or folders.

Aw man, I've had problems with my printer also, and I have Vista too. It definatley screws up tons. What kind of printer do you have? Mines HP & the scanner also never works.

If you haven't already, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer driver. Might want to check the printer company's site for it. About the control panel, I had a friend with that problem and it had something to with the software licensing. You might want to restart that in msconfig.

in ControlPan>Printers window right click to select "add new printer", then follow the instructions

If you closed the defragger using the close button it will not cause any issues. If you closed the process from task manager then it may cause a couple of issues. Also, there is no need to even look at it, it runs automatically in Vista. I restart is your best option, then goto the control panel, and printers, then right-click on our printer and select properties, then try a test-page from there (bottom right).
