does anyone know how to save the configuration from a live cd session and then load it back up when the live cd is loaded back..or even better yet save the config to the hard drive. i couldn't find it online but i remember doing it with slax linux a few years back and i went back to the site and the instructions weren't there anymore.

You would have to alter the saved ISO on the CD. I'm sure there's a way to do it, but it would be ridiculously time consuming. Your best bet is to partition.

You can save your settings and configurations on a flash or USB drive.  Not sure exactly how, but it's done all the time.  See if this site helps.  http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/ubuntu-linux-live-cd-save-data-desktop-
