So, I'm wondering what you all think about Ontario, and how they are dealing with smoking (cigarettes).

Many of you don't know what we are doing, so I'll brief you.
-Drug stores are not permitted to sell cigarettes (sometime a while ago)
-As of June last year, it is illegal to smoke in any public buildings (where any sort of service is provided)
-They are soon passing a bylaw that forces stores to hide any cigarettes from being advertised, lowering the amount of children/teens who know about smoking because of advertisements and labels
-Tonight, and another session soon, they are going to be passing a bylaw that also makes it illegal to smoke in a vehicle while accompanied by someone under the age of 16.

Do you guys think that some of what they are doing isn't helping/worsening things, and what other suggestions do you think should be taken up on smoking laws.

Also, feel free to tell us what action they are taking where you live (state, provice, country, wherever isn't too broad but a known land mass) to stop smoking, and criticize it as well.

I think that the whole smoking in the car is beyond their control, but other than that, they are doing a decent job.

I think their doing a decent job, they have some good ideas. But, I don't see how smoking in cars is anything they can really control. They tried to ban mobile phones being used while driving in England but it hasn't really made much difference.

I think that's great, although the no smoking in the car thing would be rather hard to regulate.

In Alberta, they have no smoking in public places (like pubs, restaurants, etc.) and if you do smoke, you have to smoke outside, a certain distance away from the doors. Although nobody pays attention to that last rule.

I remember reading something saying that smokers can smoke in their homes, hotel rooms (that are deemed smoking rooms, of course) and their cars, because it is their "residence". So I don't know if banning smoking in the car would ever come to fruition here.
