Hi, I am on the pill but have not been taking it properly at all. As far as I know I am not pregnant, and have not been trying. I had a period as normal last month and then started my next set of pill on time. I am not due my next period until about three weeks time as I have taken 7 of my pills this month, the last one being saturday and have skipped a few this week. Last night I started light bleeding, which I assumed was spotting because of the missed pills. However I woke up today bleeding really heavily, which I never normally do even when on a period, I was also clotting quite badly. I'm not sure if I could have miscarried or this bleeding is normal due to mised pills? I rang the nurse but she is closed due to it being may day weekend.

My immediate assumption would be that all this is due to your missed pills and whatnot - it can really mess up your cycle, as far as I'm aware. However, I couldn't possibly say for sure, because I really don't know. I mean, miscarriages are often associated with a lot of pain combined with bleeding, so are you in any pain at all? Does this seem and feel like a normal period (albeit rather early) or does it feel different? I understand why you're concerned with the bleeding as it's really unusual for you, combined with the clotting. I found this, which might help:
What are the common symptoms? Common signs of a miscarriage include: * Bleeding from the vagina. The bleeding may be light or heavy, constant or off and on. It can sometimes be hard to know whether light bleeding is a sign of miscarriage. But if you have bleeding with pain, the chance of a miscarriage is higher. * Pain in the belly, lower back, or pelvis. * Tissue that passes from the vagina.
and
# Vaginal bleeding. Especially heavy bleeding with passage of blood clots. # Abdominal pain. Severe or persistent pain in the pelvis or lower back. # Blood clots. Grayish matter may pass as the miscarriage begins. This is the embryo and placenta. If you do pass tissue at home your health care provider will likely instruct you to collect the tissue and place it in a clean jar or plastic bag to bring in for medical inspection.
and (lastly)
The following are potential miscarriage symptoms: * vaginal spotting or bleeding * bleeding that progresses from light to heavy * pain, cramps, or discomfort in the abdomen or lower back * clot-like fluid or tissue passing through the vagina * fever, weakness or vomiting
From: here, here and here. None of us can really tell you whether or not you're having a miscarriage, but I'd definitely advise you get yourself to a doctor ASAP if you're concerned.
