I'm just wondering if intellectuals have a similiar taste in music? This has probably been done before, but I'll do it again. So, what is your taste? Personally, I'm a big fan of trance. sorry! Edit: I forgot to put the other option. If you have a different taste in music than those stated, please state it

Why, why, why do people always leave Punk off these sorts of polls? Argh! Anyways, I listen to mostly Rock, Indie and Punk.

Rap and Rock. Like I've always said, you can't beat the classics!
-- Posted by Corrupted Innocence at 11:23 am on May 7, 2008
I like a range of music. I can go from listening Linkin Park to listening to listening to Ultrabeat. I have a varied music taste really. All depends on my mood and what is my favourite song of the week sort of thing

I'll listen to pretty much anything. I've never really associated with a specific genre, just whatever I enjoy listening to.
-- Posted by nikki at 1:01 pm on May 7, 2008
Acoustic, indie and classic rock are my main ones. But I like a bit of everything as long as you can hear the lyrics.

I like indie and classic rock for the most part, but I mix in other genres, as well. Lately I've been listening to Pink Floyd and The Beatles a lot.

Some of Britain's best bands right there.

No votes for Rap and R&B so far. How telling... OKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKTHATSHOULDBEVERBOSEENOUGH

I hate R'n'B with a passion. I love Jazz - the contemporary Michael Buble for example, I love rock, I don't like electric stuff - it bores me. I like Eminem, Blue, Maroon 5, Bedingfield(s) I'm an all over type of guy.

Do you know of any others I should try out? (I mean, as you live in England and most likely know more about the bands over there than I do.) For the record, I already listen to Muse, Radiohead, Klaxons, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, and Arctic Monkeys.

Industrial and all related/ encompassed genres for the win (note the signature).

Indie. Especially Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Bob Dylan, Devendra Banhart, and the Shins.

Hm, trying to think now. You have good taste in music though! Here are a few I can think of from the top of my head: The Libertines Babyshambles Bloc Party Pulp The Editors Maximo Park

Dude, the Kaiser Chiefs have my favorite song on Guitar Hero III! But I listen to classic rock most of the time, the occasional rap.

My enjoyment of music picks up at about the 50's and then tapers off sharply with the end of the 80's.

Rock, and Indie. It's rare, finding someone who would categorize them together. I like it, cause I listen to both :D
-- Posted by reyshells at 9:01 am on May 11, 2008
Everything that's music. I don't tend to like rap and hip hop, just because many times it's full of lyrics I don't want to hear. But some songs are quite good! But I'm mostly a rock/indie/classical/reggae sort of person. Yes, an odd combo.

My personal favorite is punk, but it's not an option! : (

I like all of these genres. I like everything that sounds good. I'm convinced that there is at least one good-sounding performer within all of those genres. Why isn't folk music here? I love folk music, especially Scandinavian, Baltic and klezmer music. Of classical music I prefer newer stuff. Debussy, Chopin, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Prokofiev, and a bunch of other 1800s-dudes whose names I can't spell.
-- Posted by fezzy at 5:01 pm on May 11, 2008
I'm fond of alternative rock. I suppose that fits under "rock, indie"
-- Posted by Ldzpln at 6:55 am on May 12, 2008
I like psytrance and psyrock... but honestly, i don't think that musical taste has much to do with intelligence.
-- Posted by ForeignFishes at 7:22 pm on May 12, 2008
I'm mostly into gritty '90s indie rock, shoegaze and electronica. The bands I like are ones that are largely ignored by the mainstream but have substantial cult followings, i.e. Pavement, Guided By Voices, Sonic Youth, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Wilco, M83, Ride, Yo La Tengo, Boards of Canada, Eluvium, the Books, Spiritualized, the Magnetic Fields, Spacemen 3. I'm a music snob out the ass. But I'm going to go ahead and say that the shoegaze genre seems to have the largest concentration of intellectual followers than any other. I've never met a shoegaze fan who is of below average intelligence, not to say that my word is final nor that there aren't any out there.

Indie and classic rock. Most of the "intellectuals" I know in real life like indie and classic rock as well. My favorite band is The Decemberists, but even they're too mainstream for some of my strictest indie-loving friends. Haha.

Lol, thanks. It worked out well that this topic appeared right around the same time as my new sig.

I'm big on 80s music (& late 70s...the Eagles rock!), but I'll happily listen to rock (& anything else my friends try to get me into!)
-- Posted by BREAKBOY at 7:57 pm on May 15, 2008
I listen to all said genres, but I have the deepest love for hip hop, mainly underground and old school. Funk also deserves mention. The genre was innovative and influential, and is a great alternative for the guitarist or bassist bored with the norm. Plus James Brown was a fuckin' beast, I can never grow tired of dancing to James Brown.

Right now I'm listening to Reel Big Fish. They iz dope.
