That's pretty much what peer pressure's all about. Sex and appearance are both peer pressure. When the whole group of other people (and I'm talking about the whole damn planet here) pressure you to do something, it's like you're shutting out something that's completely natural: cause and effect. There's a reason why x thing happens, but peer pressure almost suppresses that. Hey, you said you wanted an elaborate answer.
