I have two write three essay propsals for this Thursday, and I have NO idea what to write about. I need topics I can write a 10-15 page essay on, and that can be researched in both Wikipedia (yes, it isn't a reliable source, but it's part of the assignments) and online encyclopedias. Any ideas?

What subject is this?
It's a research and writing course. There's no outline or anything as to what area the topics should be in, it's completley random.

Okie-dokie. So it has to be something you can research a lot? The development of something might be good (an invention, a cure for something). Something historical (causes of some event, legacy of some event, what happened in some event). Something in which you can discuss the impact of something on society at great length (think drink/drugs/sex). One of those random things that's just interesting: something like something about lying, or trends in gender, or handwriting analysis. There you go! Methods of teaching handwriting to kids and then you could always bring in handwriting analysis. Alternatively, something about schooling methods/best ways of teaching something (language, music...).

I think a topic about poaching and other hunting would be great. You could explain the benefits and disadvantages from both sides. Another topic could be subliminal messaging on TV, in ads, etc.

What about Racism in Shakespeare! I just had to write a 10,000 word essay on the subject. Fascinating really once you get into the research.

I like the handwriting idea by periwinkle. I would personally write about the Salem Witch Hunts/Trials. There's a LOT to write on. You could even compare it to the communism scare like Arthur Miller did. It's fascinating and you can use him as a reference. Or even the book 'The Witch's Hammer'. (can you tell I love the topic?) Orrrr you could do something on the enviornment and effects of human; eco-logical footprint. Or the large trend in dieting/exercising.... media presence. Just pick stuff you LIKE so that you can be interested in talking about it for that long.

Pick something that you have an interest in, and that will provide you with a lot of information. Compare/contrast type of subjects are always good for longer papers. A couple pages of side one, a couple pages of side two, another couple breaking down and comparing the specific points, another couple to draw conclusions, then another couple reiterating the points.
