Specifically, with the official, preferred terms of the names of specific countries. Burma, at a certain point requested that the English name of the country be Myanmar, and Livewire has respected this in its selection. One can claim to be from Myanmar but not from Burma. However, other preferred naming conventions are ignored. In particular, the government of the Ivory Coast requested at a certain point that its French name should be used in English and other languages in preference of literal translations, such as "Ivory Coast." Why then, can we claim to be from Ivory Coast, but not from Côte d'Ivoire? Why should some changes be respected and others not? It doesn't seem as though it'd be difficult to find an official list of country names in English, if anybody with the authority took the time.
