I have not talked to one of my best friend in about a week now, today well like 5 mins ago I went onto myspace and him name said "Is leaving for basic in 21 days" I thought WTF...went to his page said "Soon to be......army strong"

I claled him no answer his xbox live account said he was online 30 mins ago...

I'm pretty upset about this him and I always talked about how stupid it would be to join the military especially at a time like this (current country status) and he went off and joined without telling me.

Am I wrong to feel mad at him and at the situation?

I dont know how to confront him about it Hes not the military type hes just hit a bad slump in his life arrg idk please gimme some feedback

You can't control what your friend wants to do.  Maybe he didn't tell you because he was afraid you would take it wrong?

Wrong to not tell you if you really are friends.
Not wrong to join.

Maybe he has other reasons for joining that he didn't share with you. They pay for college, a house, and they give people with few options a place to work and succeed.

I'm not an army-supporter by any means, but try to remember that this isn't about you.

He didn't want to hurt you.

not to be mean but why would your friend need anyone else's input on an important decision like that? alot of people change their decision in life just based on what others want.

Don't be mad at him for joining the Army he probably didn't tell you for a reason...Just talk to him about it and support his decisions. Message me if you want to talk I've had this happen before

he probably didnt tell you because he knew you would react like this rather then being supportive...

The military does have a lot of benefits. Payment for college, housing, pension funds..., the current situation probably isn't the only factor he went on when he decided to sign up, but it's strange that he didn't tell you - did you guys have a fight or something which means you're not talking?

All right, so I have a pretty good hunch...

He knows exactly what you think about the military, and that's why he's not contacting you. He's embarrassed and/or afraid of talking to you. Why? Because he KNOWS that you will be upset with his decision. However, don't allow him to avoid you any more. Go to his house, find him when he's hanging out somewhere, whatever - just don't be a stalker. :)

Anyway, talk to him like you normally would at first, tell him you haven't seen him for awhile. When you ask him what's new, he might tell you what's going on with the military, or he might try to avoid it. If he tries to avoid the subject, casually ask him if he's going into the army, because you thought something on his facebook. Don't sound accusing or angry, just sound curious. Be cool about it. Don't be an asshole and demand that he tell you what the hell he's doing. Don't make evident your extreme disapproval and do NOT tell him that his decision is stupid. I can almost guarantee that your friendship will suffer if not end if you attack him.

Let him know that you support him, but you're surprised at his decision. Ask him what made him decide to go down that path. Be patient and listen to him.

Good luck, I wish you the best.

Maybe the military will put him in to shape. Even though our world is having difficulties with war and such, it makes a point to help protect his soldiers. Props for him for wanted to do his american duties.
