But I've come closer than any person posting in this thread. When I went to Auschwitz and the Warsaw Ghetto and Majdanek my tour guide said, "don't think you have been to these places, you haven't, you are merely visiting" I'm aware that I haven't experienced it, so don't patronise me. But I can still think its sick that people will deny it or say that oh its exaggerated. So what if only 2,000,000 people died. I guess that wasn't that bad! I was waiting for someone who knew about Nazi history to post. And yes, the Nazis , like the Romans- kept records of many things. Or not even the survivors.. the guards at camps? Normal German people from the time? A woman came into school and spoke to us for two hours with tears in her eyes, explain that! My friends grandfather escaped from Auschwitz with two other men, they didn't survive. Did he just imagine them?! Did they not exist?! One of the things I've seen said so much by Holocaust deniers is that the stories are so surreal they can't be true. Isn't that proof for it being true. If someone was making it up, they'd stick to things people would easily believe, the less lies you tell the less likely you are to slip up. When I was in Poland our guide told us about a boy who was taken by the head guard at the Majdanke concentration camp. He was given a whip and made an honorary guard. Obviously if he'd refused he would have been killed. Eventually it became second nature to him to whip people for taking a second to rest. The fear of being killed made him do that. And then one day the guard decided to do an official ceremony to make this little boy into a real guard. He called his parents to this ceremony. When they got there they saw there was a gallows set up. The boy was told to hang his parents or he would be killed. He put both his parents heads in the nooses and let them go.
