Percussionists have to go for a special drum camp for one week where we get set on our instruments and stuff like that. It's only day two and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be placed in the pit. I don't want to be in the pit because I can't play mallets (except timpani which I'm great at). If they put me in the pit I will be super pissed and might quit band. I know it sounds like I'm being a little bitch but I despise mallets. I want to place the bass drum or even crash cymbals. Playing mallets is a hell of a lot harder than playing bass/cymbals. Then I started to love it simply because it was a great experience and it helped build skills that other people didn't get a chance to work on. Lol. Our band has like 30 pople in it too so we would give anything for a pit at all. -- Posted by Tru7h004 at 4:10 pm on June 12, 2008 Pit owns. Everyone wants to be in the drumline at first, but you have to work your way up. If you're not good enough to be in drumline for your first year, that's normal. You just have to accept what you get, not whine or moan, and practice so you can get it in it next year.
