I will be a new RA in the fall at my college. I heard that there's a possiblity I might have to work with a guy who has a reputation for being VERY against alcohol. Do you believe that someone who has strong beliefs about how harmful alcohol is...that they would be more likely to bust residents for drinking, etc,? Or do you think he would be the same as an other RA?

If your campus is a dry campus, this person would have every right to bust someone for drinking. And if not, he'd have every right to bust underage drinkers.

Well we do have a dry campus. But I know a lot about the RA job and have seen busts happen with my friends who are RAs. You generally do not go out of your way to look for alcohol, it usually finds you. And confrontation doesn't usually occur unless 1) someone is very ill and needs a hospital 2) someone is fighting or damaging property 3) someone is yelling, creating a disturbance, being loud, Public Drunkeness 4) you see, hear, or smell alcohol So unless you hear someone vomiting in the bathroom at night, smell alcohol comiong from someone's room, or hear people say "Let's get wasted! Take another shot of that vodka!" in their dorm.....Then you stay out ofit. My fear is that someone really against alcohol would bust EVERY single incident or possiblity that someone is drunk. And frankly, being an RA is now what that is about. You can't possibly expect that realistically.
