Upthrust is what keeps us on the earth when were are upside down. Seriously btw, how do you you know what is right side up and what is upside down. You cannot actually tell this in space. -- Posted by Paradox Revealed at 7:02 pm on July 9, 2008 There is no up or down in space, but all matter has gravity act on it, so the Earth pulls us toward it's center, giving us the idea of up and down/away from center of the Earth and toward it. -- Posted by sakurag at 2:17 pm on July 10, 2008 Contrary to popular belief, they don't stay on the Earth.  That part of the earth is not suitable for life, given the fact that people fall off of it into space. The closer you get to the bottom of the earth, the more support structures you need to keep buildings and people from falling into space.   I heard that in 2020 they plan to create a hanging city, but I don't believe it.. who'd want to live in a city suspended by cables..  Imagine terrorist groups cutting the cables.. a whole city, poof.. -- Posted by Mish34 at 2:55 pm on July 10, 2008 Well, obviously the world isn't round.
