My english oral exam is tomorrow and I'm talking about Ireland, and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me a really quick easy version of the story between northern and southern ireland?
I know you can. Now do it.

Well Im British living in Ireland so let me tell you the story briefly.

In the 1880's the majority of ireland wanted Home Rule while some in the North wanted to remain under directly under the rule of the british, they were known as Unionists.

Ireland was going to be given Home Rule in 1914, but WW1 got in the way and it was postponed. Irish people got fed up and revolted in 1916, known as the 1916 rising. Pretty much from there they started fighting the british soldiers for independance.

Eventually it was agreed to split ireland into northern ireland and the irish free statee. Not everyone in the north was happy at this agreement and the people who wanted to be part fo a free state started fighting the unionists who wanted to remain part of britian. And it pretty much hasnt stopped since then.
