I am recovering from an eating disorder where I chew and spit my food, as many of you already know. I have a question though. I've been doing pretty well eating normally. Full diet, protein, fruit, veggies, etc. Considering that, is it okay to continue chewing and spitting sweets or not?

Imma go with yes, but dont do it so much.

chewing gum is good for diet

I'm going to say no just because it's going to bring you back into an old habit, and although you'll only be doing it with sweets it's going to give you the urge to do it with other foods again.

i wouldnt, then it will just make you want to do it with other food and you will end up in the same sinking ship that you were trying to patch up to begin with

What is the name of your eating disorder? Isn't it a bit like anorexia? I'm glad you're recovering!

I agree with the others, if you start doing it with sweets, you'll start doing it with other foods. You don't want that habit back in your life.

yeah, spit sweets

No, you must consume all of your food to rid yourself of the eating disorder. It's still an eating disorder if you only do it with foods you deem "bad".

its not the best idea because you could get back into that habbit with regular food but as long as you keep control of what your doing then its ok

-- Posted by xXMindyXx at 9:16 am on June 12, 2008

it depends, if you think there's a slight chance it could get you going back to your old habits, then no. but i don't know you or how strong willed you are so i cant really say.

youre working on it, so thats good. baby steps

Don't take the chance - you don't want to reintroduce that habit into your life.

In all honesty, it probably wouldn't hurt you to physically to do that if you are ingesting everything you need for the day.  But you should not continue doing that because what you want is to cut that habit out of your life.  If you truly want to recover, you have to stop doing it altogether, or else it will always be a part of you, and that can't be what you want.  If you are chewing and spitting, even the excess food, you will still not be recovered until you do.

No not if your recovering from that type of ed.

I do not think so, because of the fact that doing it with one thing very well could lead to doing it with everything again. it would be like me saying... ok... i will only throw up sweets, or something like that... its still bad for you, because of the fact it has happened before.

try gum... try chewing gum, and then once the flavor is gone, put it in the trash... but only do this with gum
