It doesn't just control their bark or anything it can control things like how far they can go and if they pass a certain like outside then they'll get shocked. It doesn't hurt them unless you are using an extremely powerful collar on a dog it isn't meant for. Most people who know how to use them never have to turn them up beyond mid-level. And many 'shock' collars are only called that because they get the dog's attention, not because they shock them as if they put a fork in an outlet. Many are nothing more than a slight vibration on a pressure point. However, those invisible fences are not safe. If a dog charges through the barrier, it often has a hard time getting back through without feeling their collar go off. I don't really agree with it, but its the only way they can keep them in the grounds of their land :/ Like, they used to escape through the fence, and theres a road near, so theres a thing connected to the fence that if they try to get close to it the collar will shock them.
