I am.

If you don't know whats going on:

The Taliban (about 600 Taliban insurgents) have seized dozens villages in the south of Afghanistan. NATO and the Afghan army are going in to try and get the Taliban out of power in those villages. Leaflets were dropped by plane on the villages to warn to citizens to take cover before the battles started. The Taliban is getting hunkered down for it.

I keep refreshing the CNN website every several minutes for updates.

On a wholly separate issue, the fact that Mozilla Firefox doesn't recognize the word "Taliban" in the spell check annoys me.

You know I was wondering if this story was going to escalate when I saw it in the NYT a few days ago.

"Oh, that's terrible" is all I said when I heard of it.

I'm partial to thinking that I don't really care. All I want are Canadian troops out of Afghanistan and into places that are begging for our help.

IE. Darfur, etc.

Fuck Afghanistan.

Afghanistan still needs help. Fuck Iraq is more like it. Those soldiers should go to Darfur, personally kill all the Janjaweed, and not bomb any civilians like in Iraq.

My God I've fallen out of the loop of things.

I had no idea this was going on. I need to get back to watching the news...

I don't know that I'm "freaking out" about it. I think it's rather obvious that we intend to hit those strongholds, and people are going to die on both sides. The war has become such an ingrained part of our world that it's just another day in the news. I think it's horrible that we are bogged down there and people are dying, and the situation is pretty much out of control now.

Im not to worried about it.

Honestly, its going to be a big battle, and its going to be sad, because several civilians are going to get killed, but like I said, Im not to worried about it.

Between the Afghan army, and the UN, and all the weapons the US special forces smuggled in there the past 20 years, I dont think it will be to bad.

Now of course, the guns are probably in Taliban hands by now, but still, I dont think things will get to far out of control.

"if war is the answer, you're asking the wrong question"

I heard that somewhere,
and it expresses what I feel about this whole snafu in the middle east.

I don't like war.

Fuck everyone else. Since when is it our responsibility to try to 'help' other countries?

Neither is it your place to police the world, quite frankly. I'd rather a country is helped than bombed the shit out of. Of course, I can't exactly agree with my countries policies either.
