So out of nowhere she starts saying, "omg, this guy is SO cute! He's so nice too.  He even walked me back!"

And I was planning on saying, "okay, why are you talking to me about him? "

Girls, would that have been an appropriate response?

It depends on what your relationship is with said girl. If you're good friends, I would say that would be a douchebag thing to say. If it's your girlfriend, I think it's safe to say that would be appropriate.

no, if was even more rude on her part to bring up other guys.  For me, I would NEVER talk about another girl in front of another girl, even if I wasn't into her.  Thats just plain rude.
