...The soldier that attempted to kill his commanding officer. He rolled grenades under a tent (which seems rather cowardly to me, but I'll keep my mouth shut on that as of yet) full of men, killing one and injuring 12.

It was at first thought that his motive for doing so was a rather ambiguous anti-war sentiment on his part; it was revealed later that he was a recent convert to Islam.

Some protestors have rallied about the man, touting signs that state: We support our troops when they kill their officers.

Is this a widespread frame of thought among other liberals, or was that simply a splinter group causing you to be misrepresented in the media?

I don't believe most protesters think that way... Where did this happen? (the protest)

no!  of course not!  are you insane?  I support our troops and I hope they come home safe.  However I don't support the war.  There is a difference between hating the Us policy and the US itself.  The incident is actually quite common anyway.  Back in the Vietnam war this practice was called fragging.  when morale was down or you didn't want a dangerous duty soldiers would throw grenades into officer tents.

Yeah, let's hope all liberals aren't like that. The world would go to hell then.  :p

what happened to faking an injury, saying you are sick or just simply playing dead....  :)

i don't think that you can just blame low morale for such an action...

not just low morale but a certain mental psyche.  I'm not kidding fragging was one of the leading causes of officer deaths in the Vietnam war.  It was even close to combat casaulties.

Yea, I've heard of fragging, and that it's common...I'm of the opinion that if it wasn't for the media coverage and imbedded reporters, the guy would have been put before a firing squad and executed long ago.

The protest was in Portland, Oregon. One of several.

I'm relieved to hear that this is simply extremism.

I don't thikn so.  We still don't know whether the guy is guilty or not.  Rember we are all innocent until proven guilty.
